Image Converter
Convert pictures between JPG, PNG and WebP. Add one or many, choose the format, and download. Your pictures are processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Lower quality gives a smaller file. It applies to JPG and WebP; PNG is always lossless.
JPG cannot be transparent, so this colour fills those areas.
JPG, PNG and WebP compared
| Format | Best for | Transparency | File size |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Photos and pictures with many colours | No | Small |
| PNG | Logos, screenshots, text and sharp graphics | Yes | Large for photos |
| WebP | Almost everything on the web | Yes | Smallest |
How to choose the right format
- Choose JPG for photos you want to share, email or put on a web page: the files are small and open everywhere.
- Choose PNG for logos, screenshots, diagrams and text, or when you need a transparent background.
- Choose WebP for the smallest files on modern websites. It is supported by all current browsers.
- Converting between formats does not add detail: a picture saved as JPG and converted back to PNG is still a JPG-quality picture.
Tips for better results
- Keep the original files. Converting to JPG or WebP at a low quality throws away detail you cannot get back.
- For JPG and WebP, 80% to 90% quality is a good starting point.
- If a JPG has a coloured or dark background where the transparency was, pick the background colour you want before converting.
- Phones that save HEIC photos can switch to the most compatible format in their camera settings.
Your pictures stay private
This tool works entirely inside your web browser. Your pictures are read by your own device, changed there and saved from there. They are not uploaded to a server, so nothing is stored, shared or seen by anyone else, and the page keeps working if your connection drops after it has loaded.
How to use the Image Converter tool
- Drop your pictures on the box, click it to choose them, or paste a picture with Ctrl+V.
- Choose JPG, PNG or WebP. For JPG and WebP, set the quality.
- Check the size of each result, then press Download, or Download all to get a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
Are my pictures uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens inside your browser, so your pictures never leave your device. It also works without a connection once the page is open.
Which formats can I convert?
You can add JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and SVG pictures, and AVIF if your browser opens it. You can save the result as JPG, PNG or WebP.
What happens to a transparent background when I save as JPG?
JPG cannot be transparent, so transparent areas are filled with a colour. It is white by default and you can pick another colour. PNG and WebP keep transparency.
Can I convert many pictures at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 pictures, and use Download all to get them in one ZIP file.
Can I make the pictures smaller while converting?
Yes. Use Limit the longest side to shrink big pictures, and lower the quality for JPG and WebP. Press Compare to check the result against the original before you download.
Why can't I open my iPhone HEIC photos?
Most browsers cannot open HEIC. On your iPhone, go to Settings, then Camera, then Formats and choose Most Compatible, or share the photo as JPG, then add it here.
