Text to Binary Converter

Characters: 0Words: 0Lines: 0

How text becomes binary

Computers store every letter as a number, and numbers as binary: only 0s and 1s. Each character uses one or more bytes of eight binary digits. The capital letter H is the number 72, which is 01001000 in binary, so "Hi" is 01001000 01101001.

This tool uses UTF-8, the encoding used on almost every website, so letters with accents and emoji convert correctly too. They simply need more than one byte.

How to convert binary back to text

Paste the binary into the box and click Binary → Text. The digits must be in groups of 8, separated by spaces, or one long run that splits evenly into groups of 8. If the tool shows an error, check that no digits are missing.

How to use the Text to Binary tool

  1. Type text to convert, or paste binary code such as 01001000 01101001.
  2. Click Text → Binary, or Binary → Text.
  3. Click the copy icon above the text to use the result.

Frequently asked questions

How does text to binary work?

Computers store each character as a number. This tool writes that number as eight binary digits per byte, so the letter H becomes 01001000.

What format does the binary need to be in?

Groups of 8 digits (0 and 1) separated by spaces. A single long run of digits also works if it divides evenly into groups of 8.

Does it work for letters with accents and emoji?

Yes. The text is encoded as UTF-8, so characters outside the basic alphabet use more than one byte.
