Resize Image
Change the size of your pictures by width, height, percent or exact pixels, fit them in a box, or fill a shape such as an Instagram post. Pick a quick size, check the result and download. Your pictures are processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Lower quality gives a smaller file. It applies to JPG and WebP; PNG is always lossless.
Ways to resize a picture
- By width: type a width and the height follows, keeping the shape. The usual choice for web pictures.
- By height: the same, starting from the height.
- By percent: 50% makes the picture half as wide and half as tall, using a quarter of the pixels.
- Fit inside a box: the whole picture is made as large as possible inside the width and height you give, keeping its shape.
- Fill a box: the picture covers the exact width and height and is cut from the middle, which is ideal for Instagram posts, thumbnails and profile pictures.
- Exact size: sets both width and height. If the new shape is different, the picture is stretched or squashed.

Making pictures bigger
Reducing a picture keeps it sharp, but enlarging it only stretches the pixels it already has, so it looks softer. That is why "Do not make small pictures bigger" is switched on by default. Untick it if you really need a larger file.
Your pictures stay private
This tool works entirely inside your web browser. Your pictures are read by your own device, changed there and saved from there. They are not uploaded to a server, so nothing is stored, shared or seen by anyone else, and the page keeps working if your connection drops after it has loaded.
How to use the Resize Image tool
- Drop your pictures on the box, click it to choose them, or paste one with Ctrl+V.
- Press a quick size such as Instagram post, or choose how to resize: by width, by height, by percent, fit inside a box, fill a box, or an exact size.
- Check the new size next to each picture and press Compare to see the result, then press Download, or Download all for a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
How do I resize a picture without stretching it?
Resize by width, height or percent. The other side changes to keep the same shape. Only Exact size can stretch or squash a picture.
How do I resize a picture for Instagram or YouTube?
Press a quick size: Instagram post (1080 × 1080), Instagram story (1080 × 1920) or YouTube thumbnail (1280 × 720). These use Fill, which cuts the picture from the middle to the exact shape so nothing is stretched. If you would rather keep the whole picture, use Fit inside a box.
What is the difference between Fit and Fill?
Fit makes the whole picture as large as possible inside your box, so one side may be smaller than the box. Fill makes the picture cover the whole box exactly and cuts off the parts that stick out, keeping the middle.
What size should I use for a website?
A width of 1200 to 1920 pixels is enough for most full-width pictures, and 800 pixels for pictures inside an article. Smaller pictures load faster.
Can I make a picture bigger?
Yes, if you untick "Do not make small pictures bigger". Enlarging does not add detail, so the picture looks softer.
Does resizing change the file size?
Yes. Fewer pixels usually means a smaller file. You can also lower the quality to make a JPG or WebP smaller still.
Are my pictures uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, so your pictures stay on your device.
