Random Password Generator
Create a strong, random password in one click. Choose the length and character types, then copy it.
Strength: Very strong (103 bits of randomness)
What makes a password strong
A strong password is long, random and used for only one account. Each extra character multiplies the number of guesses an attacker needs. A random 16-character password with letters, numbers and symbols would take longer than a human lifetime to guess by brute force.
Tips for staying safe
- Use a different password for every account.
- Store them in a password manager instead of reusing or memorising them.
- Turn on two-factor authentication where it is offered.
- Never share a password by email or chat.
How these passwords are made
The generator uses your browser's secure random number generator. It includes at least one character from every type you switch on, then shuffles them. Nothing is stored or sent to a server.
How to use the Password Generator tool
- Set the length with the slider and choose which character types to include.
- A new password appears as soon as you change an option. Click Generate new password for another one.
- Click the copy icon and save the password in a password manager.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a password be?
Use at least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts. Length matters more than adding odd symbols.
Are these passwords really random?
Yes. They are made with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, the same kind used for encryption keys.
Is the password stored or sent anywhere?
No. It is created in your browser and disappears when you close the page. We never see it.
What do the strength levels mean?
Strength is shown in bits of randomness: under 40 is weak, 40 to 59 fair, 60 to 79 strong and 80 or more very strong.
Where should I keep my passwords?
In a password manager. Use a different random password for every account so one leak cannot open the others.
